Here’s quick run down of some of the more traditional types of activities that were on offer at the 2017 Spring Fling. These will soon be updated with the activities for 2018.
National Farmers Union (NFU)
The NFU’s ‘Let’s talk about farming’ roadshow will include fun facts on food and farming and lots of hands-on activities, including Annabelle the milking cow, a jigsaw centred on the foods found on your plate, a quiz, a magnetic pen maze talking children through the farming year. Plus there will be children’s activity books and recipe booklets to take away!
Discover Anglian Water’s Growing for the Future Gardening campaign and learn about drought tolerant plants and the importance of compost!
Chills Galore will be on hand to educate children on growing chillis, including how to pot them up and what to use, plus the opportunity to taste and buy products.
Norfolk Beekeepers Association
Come and learn about the importance of bees to our farming and see a bee-keeper in action!
Norfolk Wildlife Trust
Interactive, educational wildlife themed activity from the team at the Norfolk Wildlife Trust.
Tesco (Eat Happy Project)
Tesco’s Eat happy Project and Farm to Fork event will be at this year’s show to promote healthy eating and how and where our fruit and vegetables come from. They’ll also have products to sample and goody bags to pick up!
Tas Valley Mushrooms
Learn the vital importance of the mushroom including the mushroom growing chart and their cycle, plus live growing mushrooms!
Have a go a the popular farming game from Fram Farmers and challenge yourself to choose the right ingredient to produce the perfect crop.
Taste of Game
Come and try the finest burger you have ever tasted! But more importantly find out why deer management is important to our landscape and how it helps woodland conservation .
Hill Farms Oils Ltd
Come and learn about the process of how we get from a bag of seed to a bottle of oil and try your hand at pressing some seeds yourself. Samples of their product range will also be available.
City College Norwich
Students from City College Norwich will promote healthy eating and drinking by making fresh juices on the day. They will also offer a range of taster smoothies for everyone and have fresh fruit displays!
NCC Community Learning
Come and join the NCC Community Learning team for fun and free activities where you can discover the delights of the countryside, farming and food. There will be a range of hands on activities as well for parents!
Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse
This year the team from Gressenhall will be on hand with horse related objects for families to explore and handle. There’ll also be a linked craft activity using horse book marks and information on the museum and the family events they run at Gressenhall.
Mastor Composters will be promoting home composting as one of the most environmental friendly ways of recycling household kitchen and garden waste. They’ll also have an active wormery and a compost cam to view the minibeasts active in a compost heap as well as a range of other equipment and information.
Church Farm Rare Breeds Centre
Piglet Petting, Pony and Donkey Grooming. Nature Talks and Small Animal Handling.
Rare Breed Survival Trust
Have a go at making your own rare breed sheep using real fleeces; help with the bottle feeding of lambs and have a go at liking their rare breed cow model.
Learn where potatoes come from, how they grow and how they fit into a healthy balanced diet. You can also collect potatoe seeds from Greenvale Produce to take home and grow, plus sample some freshly cooked McCain’s waffles and chips.
Easton and Otley College
Come and meet the college’s livestock, have a go on their tractor simulator, get stuck in with craft making and enter their colouring competition, plus much more!
Waveney Dexter Beef
Children will be able to get close to the Dexter cattle and learn how they produce beef, on a miniature scale.
Hodmedods Hedgehog support
Learn how to make your gardens hedgehog friendly, find out what hedgehogs’ eat andd what to do if you find a poorly hedgehog. There’s also hedgehog finger puppets and a hedgehog feeding game.
Pensthope will be at the Spring Fling with craft activity linked to educating everyone about the natural landscape and wildlife within Norfolk.
